Today's interview is very special. Those that follow me know I have been singing the praises of Something in the Dirt since Sundance 2022. Well, I had the privilege of getting to interview the co-directors, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead as their movie is now available to view on demand. In our brief time together, we talked about the character formation and dynamics, their feelings about the reception of the film, and how they balance working in both independent films and franchise projects. Lots of gems in this interview.

About Something in the Dirt: The lives of Levi (Justin Benson) and John (Aaron Moorhead) become intrinsically linked when they decide to investigate the strange paranormal phenomena happening at their LA apartment building. About Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead: Benson and Moorhead have been working together on movies since 2012. Their best-know movies are Synchronic, The Endless, and their latest project, Something in the Dirt. They have also worked on episodes of television series Archive 81 and Moon Knight. Coming up, they are co-directing Loki, season 2.

About their production company, Rustic Films: Founded in 2017 by longtime collaborators Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, & David Lawson Jr., Rustic Films is a Los Angeles-based production company focused on personal, filmmaker-driven stories. Its mission is to use a do-it-yourself approach to make independent films that otherwise wouldn't be possible, but tell stories that deserve to be heard.
