The NC Film Critics Association (NCFCA) announced their Best of Cinema Nominees for 2025. And for the third year in a row, I’m joined by fellow NC Film Critics to gab about the nominations and share our hopes for the winners’ circle.
The NCFCA is made up of 69 members who either work or live in the Tar Heel state. To see the full list of nominations, as well as previous years' winners, visit the website.
This ambitious group boasts 27 categories of awards, including some unusual categories such as voice actor, directorial debut, breakthrough performance, the Ken Hanke Memorial Tar Heel Award for a film or person with a North Carolina connection, and a lifetime achievement award that honors a contribution to cinema in a different category each year. This year the group elected to award an achievement in costume design. We chose to talk about 16 of the categories for this conversation. We encourage you to follow the group's business at ncfilmcritics.org or on Bluesky/X @NCFilmCritics.
