Dark is one of the best Netflix original series to date. To see a description of the show and all of my episode recaps, go here.
Episode 7 The White Devil
Although I break the events down into the different time periods, during the episode, all the time periods are interwoven together in a way that juxtaposes the events together.
Hot take: The entire plot of this episode stays in the three core time periods of 2020, 1987, and 1954. In some ways, this is one of the most disturbing episodes of the season. Hannah proves once again to be one of the most unlikable people on the show. While no one is perfect, she seems to be the only person that has no moral compass. There is no one she thinks highly of than herself. It's questionable whether or not she even has that love for Jonas. She is the only one that intentionally causes harm to another person, with no guilt whatsoever. In addition, the person of Claudia wants to do good for someone, but ends up causing the thing she wanted to avoid. Her arc continues to baffle me. It's not clear why she chose to protect the secrets of the cave of a human life. And not one person has succeeded in doing any good whatsoever, no matter how hard they try.
In 2053 - No storylines are explored in this time period.
In 2020 - Two episodes ago, we saw Jonas leaving the house, glancing at Hannah as she slept. This episode begins with Hannah doing the same. She goes to see adult Jonas as she sleeps, and she picks up the suitcase with the machine and walks out. A mashup of other characters are also seen staring at the image of a person they long for.
As Hannah walks into the cave and Katharina gets up to visit someone, at the Doppler house, Charlotte shares her suspicions that this all has to do with her. And that Noah said, "The world will end tomorrow, and only the people in the bunker will survive.
The teen team wants to share with adults about the time travel machine. Martha, whose only thought is that Jonas might be back, goes to the Kahnwald house to talk to Hannah, who isn't home. Instead, she is confronted by adult Jonas. Once he proves who he is, they share some tender -- although not romantic -- moments. Their reunion is cut short by Katharina, who has once again come to angrily confront Hannah. Only she finds her grandson with her daughter, and with total disgust, reveals to Martha the big truth -- that she and Jonas are related.
In 1921 - No storylines are explored in this time period.
Across town, Clausen finally shares with Aleksander what his real motive is and has been all along in taking on this case.
The rest of the teens choose to confess to the Dopper parents, but they quickly realize Charlotte and Peter are not surprised by the revelation that time travel exists. Franziska is quite angry to learn this news.
In 1987 - Middle-aged Claudia is at work, and up reading some clippings, realizes today her father supposedly is found dead in his apartment. She goes to visit him, obviously thinking she can prevent that tragedy from occurring. It's his first chemotherapy appointment, and she asks if she can drive him.

At the chemo appointment, Egon and Claudia converse about time travel. It's eating Egon up that he maybe missed the truth about the missing children, and that time travel is at the center of it all. Claudia doesn't share a thing with him. She is obviously uncomfortable, but why? Why wouldn't she use this opportunity to get closer to her father?
As they are speaking, Egon rambles on about Ulrich and how we wanted to go to the caves. He realizes the caves are the center of everything. Claudia does not want anyone interfering with the caves and she tries to stop her father from calling the police. I believe he also realizes who the dead woman was back in 1954. Through a chilling course of events, Egon's death occurs just as Claudia feared, only she realizes it's her fault. "You are the white devil," are Egon's last words.
In 1954 - Egon examines the body of Claudia (his daughter, although he doesn't know that). He does recognize her from her visit the other day, though, on the same day young Helge returned. Someone suggests he show a photo of the woman to Helge; perhaps he will recognize her from his time away. They also discover Claudia's body was quite contaminated with radiation.

Upon seeing the photo, Helge doesn't know her but has heard of her, calling her "The White Devil," and claiming she wants to kill everyone. Very creepy.
In a compelling, but very disturbing, interaction, Hannah goes back in time to visit Ulrich in the psych ward. She lies to Egon to gain access to Ulrich, saying that he is her husband. Ulrich is relieved to see her, thinking she might be there to help him. Instead, Hannah uses it as an opportunity to screw over the Nielsen family once again. Poor Ulrich! He let's his guard drop. Hannah could help him, but because he doesn't swear his loyalty to her, she gets her biggest revenge yet. Hannah has no shame. She's just there to gloat. Now, she tells Egon she was mistaken, and by all counts, if I was to guess, she may try to seduce him. Remember, that Egon's wife, Doris, is having an affair with Agnes. Perhaps Egon ends up lonely and in his vulnerable state, will be fresh meat for Hannah. That's just speculation though, folks.

Burning Questions: Will Hannah stay in 1953? And will she try to seduce Egon? What will she do to punish Ulrich now that she knows he will never truly love her? Will Claudia try to fix the past and not kill her father again? Will Ulrich ever get out of prison?
